How to Apply Iron-On Heat Patches

You might not have tried yourself but sticking custom patches on garment is not that difficult. In this short guide, we are going to tell you how smooth it is and how can you heat stick your patches using regular iron in home. Honestly, you do not need to be well versed or technical to do so.

In this blog, we will disclose step by step procedure and how to use home gadgets for ironing patches to clothing, school bags, backpack or denim jean.

Things You Need 

  • Home use Iron
  • Iron Bed (Any flat surface)
  • Parchment paper/piece of thin cloth
  • Adhesive Spray (If needed)
  • Teflon Pillow (For chenille patches only)

Procedure To Follow

  1. Start by selecting the garment you want to customize. It could be a denim jacket, a backpack, a pair of jeans, or even a plain T-shirt. Keep the target place wrinkle free, give it a quick shot of warn iron so it becomes plain.
  2. Select the iron-on heat patch that suits your style and place the patch on the desired location.
  3. Turn your iron to the recommended temperature setting for the patch.
  4. Place a thin cloth, parchment paper or a cotton tea towel over the patch to protect it. Then, press the iron firmly on top of it.
  5. Allow the patch and garment to cool for a minute or two. Remove the cover up cloth gently and check if the patch has adhered properly.

Recommended Temperature and Timer for Heat Press Patches

Heat Temperature for Embroidery Patches

  •  Temperature: 320 F
  • Time: 20 Sec

Heat Temperature for Chenille Patches

  • Temperature: 320 F
  • Time: 15 Sec

Chenille patches are recommended to keep Teflon pillow under target place so the fluffiness of yarn should not be damaged.

Heat Temperature for Woven Patches

  • Temperature: 300-320 F
  • Time: 15-20 Sec

Woven logos are recommended to heat press from back side with light pressure and longer timer set.
